THE MON is the name of\u00a0 the solo project by Urlo, best known as the lead vocalist, bassist, and synth player in the heavy psych italian band\u00a0Ufomammut<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and one of the three minds behind the poster art trio\u00a0Malleus<\/a>\u00a0Rock Art Lab<\/strong>.
Where Ufomammut creates mind-expanding, heavy psychedelic, almost other-dimensional sounds,\u00a0 THE MON by comparison is far more intimate, looking inward, as Urlo explores and examines his inner most thoughts through music.
THE MON builds layers of brooding sounds which sometimes unfurl at a glacial pace and other times lurch with rhythmic propulsion, each piece distinct, densely packed, and all-consuming in their evocative atmospheres.
The aim of THE MON is to reach the boundaries of a spiritual soundscape in which the music becomes purification and atonement, a way to bring out the world that is inside human soul.
THE MON\u00a0 is a journey through the mind and a personal discovery of the relation between evil and good.
That starts from the name THE MON (to be kept together) \u2013 like \u2018Demon,\u2019 but also like \u2018the Monk\u201d or, in Japanese language \u201d gate\u201d (often used in referring to the many gates used by Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines and traditional-style buildings and castles) \u2014 to reach landscapes of sound that enable the listener to enter into different levels of consciousness in a cathartic way.
The first album of The Mon \u201cDOPPELLEBEN<\/a><\/strong>\u201d has been released in 2018 by\u00a0Supernatural Cat<\/a><\/strong>, record label of the Malleus Rock Art Lab of which Urlo is one of the founders.
In the past years, The Mon published as a digital track and videoclip\u00a0 different new songs and an EP featuring\u00a0\u00a0CHVE<\/strong><\/a>.
EYE<\/strong> is the second album of The Mon and it\u2019s more introspective and dense, built around electronic soundscapes and acoustic atmospheres that take you on a sonic journey where the songs flow non-stop into each other.
The album features some special guests:
Steve Von Till (Neurosis) and Colin H. Van Eeckhout (Amenra), authors of the lyrics and voices in \u201cConfession\u201d and \u201cTo the Ones\u201d, Sarah Pendleton (Subrosa, The Otolith) and David W. (White Hills) who have embellished some songs with textures of violins and guitars.<\/p>

In autumn 2025, THE MON is returning with a new dual-album release, further expanding its expressive range: \u201d<\/span>Embrace\u00a0The\u00a0Abandon<\/span><\/b>\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0
<\/span>The work\u00a0is\u00a0conceived\u00a0as\u00a0a\u00a0diptych,\u00a0two\u00a0sides of the\u00a0same\u00a0emotional\u00a0and\u00a0sonic\u00a0coin.
<\/span>The first part, \u201c<\/span>Songs Of\u00a0Abandon<\/span><\/b>\u201d is\u00a0built\u00a0around\u00a0acoustic ballads,\u00a0raw\u00a0vocals, and\u00a0stripped-down\u00a0arrangements,\u00a0revealing\u00a0a more fragile, human side of the project.<\/span>\u00a0
<\/span>The second\u00a0chapter, \u201c<\/span>Songs Of\u00a0Embrace<\/span><\/b>\u201d dives\u00a0into\u00a0a dark,\u00a0instrumental\u00a0realm\u00a0of ambient drone and\u00a0textured\u00a0electronics,\u00a0atmospheric\u00a0and immersive, the album sounds like a soundtrack for\u00a0solitude.<\/span>\u00a0
<\/span>This\u00a0upcoming\u00a0release\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0meditation\u00a0on\u00a0identity\u00a0and\u00a0shadow, on\u00a0duality\u00a0and\u00a0integration, a\u00a0continuation\u00a0of the\u00a0internal\u00a0journey\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0heart\u00a0of\u00a0 THE\u00a0MON.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
